Last Saturday was my day to run 20 miles!  I was so nervous because this would be the run that would either boost my confidence and make me feel like I could actually run the marathon or crush me altogether and make me question everything I’ve trained for.  They say you hit a wall at 20 and I was so scared to discover what that feels like. 

I did everything I could to prepare the day before.  I’m starting to learn what helps me get through those long runs.  I have to stay away from all gassy foods the day prior (so no beans or broccoli! lol)  and lasagna is my carb loading meal of choice.  A bagel with peanut butter and a cup of joe help me get my morning started and a box of raisins halfway through my run help me finish.  This has become my routine, its working, and I’m going to stick with it.  I’ve tried other carb loading meals, other electrolyte replacements, coffee, no coffee, etc….  I’m glad I’ve found what works for me.

It was a cool morning and I ran with the Pineland Striders running club in Medford.  There were about 10 of us that started.  We quickly broke into 2 groups and I’m happy to say I was in the quicker first group of 5 ladies and one guy.  There was great conversation, lots of water stops, and cool temps.  It was a GREAT run and I was so proud of myself!  I think with a tad more training (6 weeks to be exact), I should do ok in the marathon.
